From Student to 100th Pharma MBA Alumnus!

Dr. Marko Vesic is our 100th Pharma MBA graduate, and we took the opportunity to sit down with him and discuss his journey at GBS. In this interview, Marko shares insights into his time as a student and talks about his experiences and the knowledge he gained throughout his MBA program.

Could you tell us about your professional background and what motivated you to pursue the Pharma MBA at GBS?

My journey in the pharmaceutical industry began as a medical representative, and I've since undertaken diverse commercial roles, specializing in strategic marketing for Orphan drugs. I've always been driven by a passion for innovation and improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Pursuing the Pharma MBA at GBS was a step towards honing my leadership skills, understanding organizational dynamics, and gaining a comprehensive view of the industry.

What specific goals and ambitions did you have when you started the program, and how did the program help you achieve them?

When commencing the program, my aim was to fortify my leadership abilities and broaden my understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape, particularly from a business development perspective, given my background in natural sciences. The diverse curriculum and insights from top-tier pharma veterans at GBS significantly sharpened my strategic acumen and provided a broader global perspective.

Could you highlight some key insights or experiences from your time in the Pharma MBA program that have significantly impacted your career or professional growth?

Collaborating with professionals and peers from varied backgrounds in science, technology, and business was incredibly enriching. Engaging in these diverse exchanges not only broadened my horizons but also motivated and enriched me as an individual. The program's blend of academic depth and practical industry experiences truly influenced my problem-solving approach and strategic planning.

Reflecting on the past two years, what has been your most remarkable memory as a Pharma MBA student?

Beyond academics, the connections and friendships I've formed with my peers have been the most remarkable aspect of this journey. These relationships have been an invaluable asset for me.

What message or advice would you like to give to current and future students of the program?

Fully immerse yourself in the diverse academic environment and embrace active engagement with both the coursework and your peers. The relationships fostered here are not merely connections but a network of invaluable support and learning.

How have you managed work-life balance and career progression, especially considering the demands of the pharmaceutical sector? Do you have any tips for maintaining a healthy balance?

Balancing career growth and personal life requires precise time management. Learning to prioritize and discern the true sense of urgency has been a valuable lesson. The unwavering support from both my employer and family has been pivotal in successfully navigating these demands.

How does it feel to know that you are the 100th alumnus of this program?

Feeling like I should try my luck with the lottery! Being the 100th alumnus of this esteemed program is an honor that symbolizes the journey and evolution of the GBS Program. I hope this marks the end of the chapter as a student at GBS but the beginning of a collaboration in a different form, where I can share my know-how with the coming generations.
