Finance Master’s Theses Presented in the Alps

After nearly two years of study, the Master in Finance 2024 cohort came together in the Alps to share their thesis projects, reflect on their academic journey, and spend time together hiking in the mountains. Riezlern has hosted Goethe Business School’s Finance programs annually since 2007, making it a long-standing tradition for the program.

From October 16 to 19, 2025, students gathered at Marburger Haus in Kleinwalsertal for the second part of the annual seminar Scientific Methods for Research & Writing Part II, following the first part that took place earlier in the summer semester. Guided by Prof. Dr. Uwe Walz, academic director of the Master in Finance program, students presented their master’s thesis projects and exchanged feedback in several intensive sessions. The theses reflected the cohort’s specializations in Risk Management and Financial Technology Management, combining rigorous research with practical applications.

Beyond the academic exchange, the group enjoyed the scenic surroundings of Kleinwalsertal. On Friday, participants set out on an almost six-hour hike to Walmendinger Horn, pausing for food and drinks before reaching the summit cross and returning to Marburger Haus. The day ended with a shared dinner, lively conversations, and more student presentations. On Saturday evening, the group visited the Bergstüble restaurant for traditional meals, followed by a short torch-lit walk back through the forest. These shared experiences offered a relaxed setting to reflect on the program and the past semesters.

The trip also gave students a chance to say goodbye to one another as they shift focus to completing their theses, now without regular classes on Campus Westend. Students were happy to have the opportunity to come together one more time, celebrating both their achievements and the strong sense of community within the cohort that was formed in the past year. This trip is always a great way to see what students have learned and how they have grown both professionally and personally.
