This module is structured into two parts. The Production part introduces the fundamentals of pharmaceutical manufacturing, including key supporting functions such as quality, engineering, HSE, supply chain, logistics, finance, and project management. It highlights the importance of skilled personnel and leadership. The Quality Management section focuses on quality tools throughout the pharmaceutical product life cycle, with an emphasis on digital transformation toward Pharma 4.0, stakeholder expectations, and legal and regulatory requirements. It also covers practical implementation, required competencies, and collaboration with partners. Overall, the course provides a holistic view of pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality management, and the path toward digital maturity.

Dr. Christian Matschke
Dr. Christian Matschke has over 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical development, production, quality, supply chain management, and general management, leading global projects, production sites, and TechOps organizations across Germany, Poland, Switzerland, India, and Austria. He was a Board Member at Berlin-Chemie AG (Menarini Group), overseeing Technical Operations until 2024. He is Executive Vice President of Manufacturing & Supply at Xellia Pharmaceuticals / COO, a Novo Holdings company, and serves on the General Assembly of IHK Berlin, the board of Bildungswerk Nordostchemie e.V., and the Steering Board of greenCHEM.
Dr. Hans-Martin Schwarm
Dr. Hans-Martin Schwarm, PhD, is a licensed pharmacist and certified food chemist with over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in senior and corporate management roles across Quality Assurance and Quality Management, Regulatory, Product Development, and Technology Transfer. Among other roles, he served as managing director of STADA for 16 years. He was also responsible for international projects in Europe, the US, India, and China. Today, he is a Senior Advisor for Pharma and Health Care.
Candidates with an undergraduate degree (i.e., bachelor or equivalent) of 180 credit points (CP) based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) can apply for our Open Programs. The allocation of credit points for work experience will appear on the Academic Transcript of Records and be titled ‘Prior Learning Assessment’.
Open Program applicants must submit a recent proof of English language proficiency at the higher B2 level per the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The GBS Office of Admissions will accept test results of the following tests, taken no longer than two years ago upon the date of submission:
- TOEFL iBT®
- TOEFL iBT® Home Edition
- IELTS
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
- English Language Level Test (ELLT) - Oxford International Digital Institute
Applicants may request a waiver of proof of proficiency in English in case one of the following conditions applies. The applicant
- is a native speaker of English;
- has graduated from an international baccalaureate program
- has completed their undergraduate or master-level studies in a program taught entirely in English;
- has worked in an English-speaking country for at least one year.
If the applicant has not taken any of the above tests when submitting the application, the applicant can upload a confirmation of the test registration to the online admissions portal.
Applicants who submit a language certificate older than two years but without an expiry date will be invited for an additional interview with a native speaker of English.
Proof of relevant post-undergraduate work experience of at least one year is to be submitted, e.g., a performance review, reference letter, or written confirmation from your employer.
