The new MBA is a flagship initiative within the long-term collaboration between Goethe University Frankfurt and Eintracht Frankfurt, combining academic excellence with strong practical relevance and direct integration into the sports industry.
A future-oriented MBA for the sports industry
The Sports Management MBA responds to the growing demand for professionals who understand and can actively shape the transformation of sport through innovation, technology and media. These topics form the core pillars of the curriculum and reflect the current challenges and opportunities in professional sports.
The program is designed as a flexible, part-time format that enables participants to continue their professional careers while further developing their expertise and leadership capabilities.
“The sports ecosystem is a dynamic and rapidly evolving industry, driven by increasing professionalization, technological innovation and new business models. The newly designed Sports Management MBA addresses the specific requirements of professionals across the entire sports value chain,” says Prof. Dr. Uwe Walz, Academic Program Director of the Sports Management MBA. “By combining academic excellence with solid practical experience, the program provides up-to-date insights into the evolving field of sports management and equips participants to take on leadership responsibilities in a dynamic environment.”
Threefold program leadership bringing together diverse perspectives
A distinctive feature of the program is its leadership structure, which combines academic excellence and industry expertise:
- Prof. Dr. Uwe Walz, Academic Program Director and Professor of Industrial Organization at Goethe University
- Phillipp Heßberger, Industry Program Director and Director & Authorized Officer at Eintracht Frankfurt
- Hon. Prof. Dr. Michael Groß, Program Curator, Honorary Professor at Goethe University, three-time Olympic champion, coach and speaker
Together, they contribute perspectives from academia, elite sport and management practice, ensuring that the curriculum is both academically rigorous and closely aligned with the requirements of the international sports business.
Learning with and from industry experts
A key distinguishing feature of the program is the close involvement of Eintracht Frankfurt as an active program partner. The club contributes to both the development and delivery of the program and provides participants with hands-on insights into professional sports practice.
The collaboration with Eintracht Frankfurt, together with the strategic involvement of the DFL as an additional partner, enhances the program’s relevance and opens access to an extensive professional network. At the same time, the program is deliberately open to further partnerships across the sports industry – from federations and leagues to media and technology companies as well as sponsors – in order to reflect the full diversity and dynamics of sports management.
Part of a comprehensive innovation partnership
The Sports Management MBA is part of a broader collaboration between Goethe University and Eintracht Frankfurt, covering education, research and innovation. Joint initiatives in areas such as digitalization, sports innovation and talent development contribute to strengthening Frankfurt as a leading hub for science, business and sport.
