Join our next community event: Virtual Networking Lunch

Following the success of our Virtual Networking Lunch as part of the ‘GBS Virtual Christmas Market’ events in December, we are delighted to begin offering networking opportunities on a regular basis for the GBS community. Our first event of 2021 will take place online on Thursday, March 18 from 12.00 – 13.00pm. Alumni, students, faculty, and all GBS community members are invited to join us over the lunch break for a speed dating-style virtual networking session! You’ll be randomly paired with a new partner every 8 minutes, giving you the chance to chat and get to know up to 7 new contacts from the GBS network over lunch. Bring a bite to eat, enjoy some casual conversation, and stay connected with GBS from wherever you are! Register here to join us – as always, it's free! In an effort to continue improving our offers for the wider GBS community, we will be organizing regular virtual networking events as well as virtual trivia evenings throughout 2021. Make sure to follow us on social media or subscribe to our Newsletter so you never miss an event!

Spring GBS Executive Education certificate: Negotations in the Digital Age

We are excited to announce that our Executive Education certificate course ‚Negotiations in the Digital Age‘ will be running in May and GBS Alumni now have the opportunity to prebook a seat in the program!

Practice power, status, persuasion and negotiation tactics and strategies in a 3-day interactive program designed around mini exercises, discussion, and live negotiation practice. Both Harvard cases and cases prepared by lecturer Stephan Jansen (Beyond the Deal GmbH) will be used to develop conceptual frameworks for better negotiation analysis. This program will enable you to become a more effective and reflective negotiator, with particular focus on negotiating in the Digital Age. How does the dynamic change when negotiations need to be executed through online meetings? Have access to online tools impacted the classic negotiation methods? We will prepare, execute and analyze to give you timely feedback on what went well and what can be improved. In addition to the 3-day curriculum, participants will benefit from the opportunity to have a 2- hour one-on-one coaching session with our professional trainer anytime in a 12-month period after the program. This provides participants with the opportunity to apply their new skills, and get expert advice directly related to their own, real-life negotiations. A half-day refresher course will be offered 6 months post-program. Contact Shannon Janke at janke[at]gbs.uni-frankfurt.de to pre-book your seat now or visit the webpage here!

Leveraging Business Education for Social Good: Case study of a business student’s social impact

What does social impact through business education look like? There is of course no answer to this – there are as many opportunities as there are ideas.

Examples of what GBS students have achieved in the past include a start-up born out of a group project and master thesis, which uses an app to support plastic cleanup of oceans and waterways, or a mentoring program which connects natural science students to industry mentors so they can learn how to transfer their natural science background to industry opportunities. Or the case of Louisa Mayer, Manager at Accenture Interactive and GBS Master of Digital Transformation Management Class of 2020 alumna.

Louisa supported the project ‚Digital Summer School for Teachers‘ – a project driven by Accenture Corporate Citizenship. Addressing the critical issue of a rapid shift to digital homeschooling due to Covid-19, the program was developed to support teachers in enhancing their digital skills to facilitate better teaching online. [...]

Read more on how Louisa and her colleagues were able to create a space for teachers to develop their digital skills, supported by knowledgeable coaches who could address their personal challenges in our newest blog post here.

Review AlumnInsights: An fwwg article by Frederik Gruissem.

AlumnInsights is a series of events that is dedicated to granting insights into businesses and institutions in the Rhine Main area. The extensive network of fwwg (Frankfurter Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Gesellschaft) - alumni society of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Goethe-University - enables organizing interesting behind-the-scenes tours and regular visits for students as well as alumni of our faculty. With the necessary safety measures taken into consideration, they were able to organize three AlumnInsights tours despite the Corona Virus in the winter semester. The series started with beverages and snacks during the “Wasserhäuschen-Wirtschaft Revival Tour” where participants accompanied the district historian Hubert Gloss to a fascinating Wasserhäuschen tour from Seckbach to Nordend, which came to a close in “Apfelwein Frank”.

The next event of the series “AlumnInsights: Strassenblick” allowed very different insights into the city, which many probably try to repress from their minds in day-to-day life. Thomas Adam, who was homeless and addicted to alcohol in the past, guided the tour group through Frankfurt. Instead of explaining the historical and cultural backgrounds of the usual sights, they visited the meaningful places of his past, while he told stories of his former everyday life.

What causes the emergence of hailstorms and how can they be predicted in advance? This and similar questions were discussed during the last AlumnInsights event of 2020 at the German Meteorological Service's Wetterpark in Offenbach.

The fwwg is planning to continue this exciting series with more fascinating events and topics. Keep in touch and find more information on their website.
