This course will address the implementation of sustainability strategies into investment decisions. Incorporation of sustainability aspects into investment decisions is not only requested for financial intermediaries by regulators worldwide but helps to reduce long-term and often extreme risks and caters to investors’ demands. Sustainability matters directly or indirectly to all companies and is key to the long-term success of each business. Business models need to be adopted to the new reality to survive long term.
The class will cover the following topics:
- the origins of the global sustainability movement
- the development of business and investment strategies and best practice examples for implementing these strategies
- the relevant regulatory developments, for instance, in the area of sustainability reporting
- the focus financial intermediaries based on their sustainability policy
- Evaluate sustainable investment strategies and financial products
Group discussions provide an opportunity to share insights into the potential future development of sustainability topics in companies and financial markets and their role in maintaining financial system stability.

Dr. Gerrit Jan van den Brink
Dr. Gerrit Jan van den Brink is working as advisor on ESG-, Risk Management, AI and Data. He is a lecturer at the Goethe University, Goethe Business School, the Dutch Actuarial Institute and the Hague University of Applied Sciences. Before he worked as CRO, CFO, Operations Director, Head of Operational Risk and Compliance and Auditor in the Banking, Life Insurance and Pensions sector in Germany, the Netherlands, UK and Ireland. Dr. van den Brink is a chartered accountant and holds a PhD of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
