Blockchain is here to stay!

Cryptocurrencies are just the tip of the iceberg. Technology offers many opportunities (and threats) for all sectors of the economy...But can we identify them? Find out at our upcoming FIRM* Kaminabend on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 7 PM!

Dr. Marco Schulmerich and Shahrok Shedari will share their insights into blockchain and give a brief introduction to the technology as well as outline the implications for financial institutions: why digital assets are not a temporary phenomenon and why customers will demand services around digital assets in the future? Search in your email inbox for the registration link to the event or contact us for more information.

Dr. Marco Schulmerich joined Metzler in 2005. In 2018, he became a member of the Partners’ Committee B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. Holding AG and, in this role, he assumes responsibility for the IT department. He is also responsible for Metzler’s digitization activities and is a permanent member of the Bank’s Credit Committee. Shahrok Shedari completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree at Goethe University, majoring in Finance and IT. He has been working for Bankhaus Metzler for 8 years and held various positions in different divisions. Since 2020, he has been working in the bank's innovation unit called “DigitalManufaktur”. Here, he deals with topics that could disruptively change the financial industry in the next 5 years.

Feel like a GBS student for a day!

We are delighted to offer another Virtual MBA Experience for interested candidates in February 2022!

The Virtual MBA Experience has previously proven to be a great opportunity for interested candidates to experience an MBA teaser lecture first-hand. For the first time, this event will include a teaser lecture for both MBA programs – the Digital Transformation MBA and the Pharma MBA. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Thomas Funke of Tomorrow's Education and Dr. Sebastian Schäfer of TechQuartier and to dive into the topic of "Developing a successful business concept in a 'real life' scenario".

Following the teaser lecture, current MBA students and alumni will share their GBS experience with participants in a panel talk. What have you always wanted to know about the MBA experience at GBS? This will be your chance to hear all about time commitment, company support, the biggest challenges and the long-lasting bonds created.

Digitalstadt Meets Economy

"Roundtable of Digitalstadt 2021 - a Success!": A HoDT article by Rüdiger Vaelske.

Thursday, November 25, 2021, 5 p.m.: Company and start-up representatives as well as the organizers present themselves at the virtual Roundtable of Digitalstadt 2021 to discuss the potential and added value of Darmstadt's data platform.

At the online event, José David da Torre Suárez, Managing Director of Digitalstadt Darmstadt, presented the concept and content of the future-oriented data platform in a keynote speech. Followed by the managing director of the House of Digital Transformation, Hauke Schlüter, leading a 5 X 5-minute speed dating. Selected companies used the opportunity to present themselves and to win new partners for joint project ideas in the context of the urban data platform. The vivid 5-minute contributions also strengthened the content of the next agenda item.

The event was followed by a workshop conducted on the Big Blue Button platform, where participants were given the chance to analyze which use cases are crucial for the present companies on the data platform in order to further develop their business model. They used a whiteboard to illustrate and work out which data from the companies / start-ups can flow into the platform.

The organizers of the Roundtable of Digitalstadt Darmstadt 2021 were positive that they had developed valuable and inspiring input with the participants for Darmstadt's data platform. The ideas for further data platform use cases are now being evaluated and tested for feasibility. Participants can also find out about the progress of this work by means of reports on Digitalstadt Darmstadt’s website (www.digitalstadt-darmstadt.de).

The House of Digital Transformation e. V. (HoDT – founded as House of IT) is a platform for promoting digital transformation in the German state of Hesse. The HoDT networks players from business, science and politics working together toward a common goal: to jointly shape the digital transformation in Hesse. HoDT Managing Director Hauke Schlüter sees a great significance in the cooperation with GBS:  "It is very important. Our mission as the House of Digital Transformation is to link science, businesses and politics. We run a large high-caliber network in these sectors. We have renowned members like Fraunhofer Institute; the Universities in Darmstadt, Kassel and of course Frankfurt; small and large companies from start-ups to big sharks like Accenture or Software AG; and of course the ministries and government. So, it makes sense to cooperate with GBS as high-end business school with its network and high-profile teachers and lecturers on academic level, ensuring excellence in theory and its application to practice." If you like to see more of the GBS and HoDT partnership, Technologieland Hessen has created an exciting videoclip illustrating this cooperation here.
