Thinkathon welcomes 5 leading experts to jury panel!

Hack the future of EdTech this September!

From Sept. 23-26, 2021, students and alumni of the GBS Community have the exclusive chance to take part in an all-new event format: the GBS Thinkathon! The event, taking place from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon and facilitated by GDEXA, will challenge teams to rapidly prototype, test, and pitch both a product and a business case to a panel of expert judges in order to win exclusive prizes. Combining daily Master Classes, sprint sessions, and coachings with networking events and guest speakers, the hackathon-type challenge promises to be the highlight of 2021 on Campus Westend. After over a year of digital lessons and restricted on-campus activities, we are thrilled at the opportunity to host such a unique event to kick-start the Fall and bring the GBS Community back to campus again. The best part: participation is free!

Meet the jury: Teams will present their pitches to a panel of expert judges on Sunday morning, giving each team the opportunity to receive real feedback. The jury will also select the winning team. We’re excited to have joining us the following experts for our 2021 jury:

Marco Seiler – Managing Director, Oddity Group

        Andreas Baier Managing Director, Accenture

Edip Salipa – Chief Learning Officer, Microsoft

Jolanda Schwirtz – Marketing, Communication & Digital Transformation Director, Nestlé

Head of Innovation, SAP (person TBD)

In addition to the opportunity to interact with our judges, teams will have the chance to win exciting prizes such as a free Executive Education Certificate course of their choosing; the opportunity to receive mentoring and take part in a further workshop with GBS faculty to continue developing their product; a YouTube Live interview with GDEXA; or runner-up prizes of gift certificates, exclusive merchandise, and more.

Stay tuned on our social media pages over the next few weeks as we introduce our judges one by one, and release the full event schedule!

REGISTER NOW to book your seat – places are limited in 2021!

What’s different in an online negotiation?

We're pleased to announce new dates for the Executive Education certificate course ‚Negotiations in the Digital Age‘ with Stephan Jansen (Beyond the Deal GmbH)!

Register and mark these Fridays in your calendar:

September 17, 2021
September 24, 2021
October, 01, 2021

What: Practice power, status, persuasion and negotiation tactics and strategies in a 3-day interactive program designed around mini exercises, discussion, and live negotiation practice. Both Harvard cases and cases prepared by lecturer Stephan Jansen will be used to develop conceptual frameworks for better negotiation analysis.

Goal: This program will enable you to become a more effective and reflective negotiator, with particular focus on negotiating in the Digital Age. How does the dynamic change when negotiations need to be executed through online meetings? Have access to online tools impacted classic negotiation methods? We will prepare, execute and analyze to give you timely feedback on what went well and what can be improved.

Extra: In addition to the 3-day curriculum, participants will benefit from the opportunity to have a 2-hour one-on-one coaching session with our professional trainer anytime in a 12-month period after the program. This provides participants with the opportunity to apply their new skills, and get expert advice directly related to their own, real-life negotiations. A half-day refresher course will be offered 6 months post-program.

A visit to the Mainhatten skyline and more!

An article by fwwg - Frankfurter Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Gesellschaft, the international network of alumni and students of the Department of Economics at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main with over 1.500 members at all levels of business and academia.

AlumniInsights is an event series by fwwg, the alumni society of the Faculty of Business and Administration at Goethe University, and is dedicated to granting insights into businesses and institutions in the Main-Rhein area. Fwwg has used this past year as an opportunity to broaden their perspective and to offer inspiring behind-the-scenes tours and visits for their members with the support of their large network (with necessary safety measures taken into consideration). This semester, for instance, the series was entirely dedicated to Frankfurt's economic history. Participants had the chance to gain insights into the industrial and social history, the development of the main train station, and most excitingly into the creation of the “Mainhatten skyline”.

The skyline of Frankfurt is definitely unique and a well-known landmark in Germany. Questions like ‘How was the skyline developed over time?’ and ‘When is a building actually considered a skyscraper?’ were answered at the first event of the AlumniInsights series, led by Goethe alumna Stephanie Heeg-El-Sayed. At the second event, she gave a review of the opening of Frankfurt Central Station in 1888, which paved the path for the industrial age and led to a significant population growth in the second half of the 19th century. It was the biggest train station in Europe and shaped the future cityscape of Frankfurt. After an insightful introduction into the history of Frankfurt, participants visited a number of original company locations, former working-class districts and social institutions guided by Goethe alumnus Björn Wissenbach. The tours were a great way to dive into the beginnings of a city that has become a major international financial center with its special architecture and important history.
