News from Academia: Genome-Based Stratified Pharmacotherapy | Prof. Dr. Theo Dingermann

GBS faculty brings along extensive experience in research and practise-oriented teaching.

We would therefore like to draw your attention to the reissued publication of GBS Pharma MBA Academic Director Prof. Dr. Theo Dingermann and Dr. Ilse Zündorf: "Stratifizierte Pharmakotherapie: Genetische Grundlagen, praktisches Vorgehen". This book is available in German only.

The term “pharmacogenomics” is increasingly known as a specialized form of molecular diagnostic whose focus is not the detection of diseases and disease risks but the prediction of a possible failure of pharmacotherapy or the occurrence of undesirable effects. This still quite new discipline has already made the translation into practice because the current knowledge can be found easily in an excellently structured data base. Furthermore, tests are available which enable to collect personal data from patients in an easy way to specifically optimize their drug therapy. Nevertheless, a broad application has not been achieved yet. The reason is an immense knowledge gap because only a very small number of practicing physicians and pharmacists are familiar with the fundamentals which build the basis for the use of drug-related genetic biomarkers.
