On Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11, Goethe Business School hosted the Preparatory Course for the new part-time Master in Finance students who will start their studies in April. This annual event, which took place in the House of Finance at Goethe University’s Campus Westend, provides a quick overview of the basic concepts of statistics, mathematics and accounting to refresh the new students knowledge on these key topics!
The event began with a warm welcome from Dr. Anja Weigt, Director of Master Programs at GBS, followed by a thought-provoking keynote talk by Mr. Gerold Grasshoff, Chairman of the FIRM Executive Board.
The program continued with a session on statistics in the early evening. This lively and interactive session, taught by Associate Prof. Dr. Steffen Juranek of the Norwegian School of Economics, covered topics including descriptive statistics, measures of location, and measures of variability.
On Saturday, the event offered a morning and afternoon session. Goethe University’s Prof. Dr. Uwe Walz started the day with an interesting session on Mathematics. Prof. Dr. Walz, who is the Academic Director of the part-time Master in Finance program, addressed topics around differential calculus, financial mathematics and linear systems of equations. In the afternoon, Prof. Dr. Andrej Gill from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz energetically covered topics such as basic understanding of the financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows.
It was great to see so many students of the incoming Master in Finance Class of 2025 attending the course in such enthusiastic way!
