Project management in firms operating on the digital frontend entails dealing with technicalities and processes that go beyond traditional management skills. Managers in such projects lead teams comprising data scientists, software engineers, and ICT specialists with diverging opinions about the approaches, data, and visualizations most appropriate for the project. How can the leaders make informed decisions on these topics? This course introduces the fundamental computer science concepts and techniques relevant to managers. The course aims to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to apply and understand computational methods to economic analysis, modeling, and data analysis. Previous experience with data science can be helpful, but it is not required. The course begins with an overview of programming concepts and common activities that are relevant to data science. Then, it delves into advanced topics in programming, visualization, and data management.
- Understand and apply programming concepts and practices in R to solve data science problems
- Analyze and interpret economic data using appropriate tools and techniques
- Apply standard aggregation and visualization techniques to economic data
- Work effectively on data science projects in a team, including communicating technical data science ideas clearly and concisely
- Gain a high-level overview of the open-source R statistical software ecosystem and enrich and expand their knowledge of R libraries
