New scholarships made possible by Duke Goethe Executive MBA 2010 Class Gift

With their generous class gift, the graduates of the Duke Goethe Executive MBA Class of 2010 make five scholarship awards possible for incoming students in the Goethe Full-Time MBA program.

Bei der Graduierungsfeier der Absolventen von zwei Weiterbildungsprogrammen für Manager der Goethe Business School der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main forderte KfW-Vorstandsmitglied Axel Nawrath: „Wir brauchen eine stärkere Orientierung am Ziel der Nachhaltigkeit.“ Nawrath appellierte an die Nachwuchsmanager „Sie werden die Managerelite dieses Landes bilden. Ich wünsche mir, dass Nachhaltigkeit eines der Ziele ist, das Sie leiten wird. Seien Sie mutig. Stellen Sie Dinge in Frage, die in den letzten Jahren als vorherrschende Meinung galten.“

   

Prof. Raghuram G. Rajan: “How hidden fractures still threaten the world economy”

Prof. Raghuram G. Rajan was one of the few economists who warned of the global financial crisis before it hit. Now, as the world struggles to recover, it's tempting to blame what happened on just a few greedy bankers who took irrational risks and left the rest of us to foot the bill. In his book “Fault Lines”, Rajan argues that serious flaws in the economy are also to blame, and warns that a potentially more devastating crisis awaits us if they aren't fixed.

New Academic Honor for Top Graduates at GBS

Goethe Business School (GBS) is pleased to announce that exceptional graduates of each graduating class are now offered membership in the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma.  Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is a high distinction awarded to graduates from business programs that are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Beta Gamma Sigma has been in existence for almost 100 years and today constitutes a professional network of more than 625,000 individuals worldwide. Membership in this honor society is awarded to graduates in all GBS degree programs, the Goethe Full-Time MBA, the Executive MBA, and the Executive Master of Finance and Accounting.

The financial crisis has undermined the trust in market and credit risk models currently used by banks and rating agencies. At the same time, volatile markets and the proliferation of innovative financial products make market and credit risk management ever more complex and essential. The liquidity dry-up during the financial crisis emphasized the interrelation of market and liquidity risks and raises new questions for the management and regulation of liquidity risks. These issues were discussed in a seminar on market and credit risk models in banks for European banking supervisors at Goethe Business School, Frankfurt University’s center for management education, on 28 and 29 September 2009.
