Health Insurance

In accordance to German Law (§5 Section 9 SGB), all students are required to have health insurance before they can be matriculated at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

Nationals from EU member states and the contracting states to the European Economic Area (EEA) are covered in Germany by arrangements of the EEA.  However, students from the EU and EEA area must obtain the European Health Insurance Card prior to traveling to Germany.

All other students are required to acquire German health insurance for the duration of their studies. This applies regardless of any health insurance coverage the students may hold in their home country. Insurance coverage costs are different under different insurance companies. The costs for students under 30 years of age are currently at about €90 per month.
