Campus Westend
Campus Westend: the pulse of a living cityIt's been a long time since Frankfurt lost its reputation as Germany's dullest city. A lot of that had to do with the 1960s, '70s and '80s middle-class migration out to the leafy suburbs. Since then, people have been rediscovering the many advantages of downtown Frankfurt, with the result that the energy has moved back into the city with a vengeance. Today, Frankfurt has all the charms and attractions of a major European city, together with a distinctive character that is all its own.
The city itself is located at the heart of Europe’s business community, easily accessible from all over the world. Within that framework, the Campus Westend of Goethe University Frankfurt nestles in a surprising burst of parkland, unusual so close to the center of a major city. Our buildings are based around the Neo-Realist IG Farben building, while immediately beyond our boundaries you can find splendid art deco residences, cutting-edge modernist architecture and magnificent public parks. The Westend district directly borders Frankfurt's downtown, boasting a wealth of eateries, shops, theatres and recreational facilities. All made accessible by Europe's No.1 public transport system.
The House of Finance building is part of a €600 million investment by the State of Hesse to build a new site for Goethe University at Campus Westend. It exists as a Center of Excellence that unites all the scientific competences of finance and financial management under one roof. With 20 professorships and around 100 scientists working within our walls, the House of Finance serves as an international center, bringing together a network of the financial community, science and politics.
The House of Finance is an elegant five-storey building, inaugurated in early 2008. Encompassing 14,000 square meters and located in one of the leading European financial markets, the building offers ideal spatial conditions for the dialogue between science and practice.
